Fuel Grade MBM
Due to spiralling prices and reduced availability, UK industry is under increasing pressure to replace fossil fuels with alternative fuels. In 2008, 17.5 per cent of fossil fuels could be swapped for secondary replacements.
As a by-product of the traditional rendering process, meat and bone meal (MBM) has seen a massive growth in demand as a carbon neutral biomass. John Pointon and Sons condition our MBM to a high specification in order to provide a high quality substitute fuel to major cement plants across the United Kingdom.
Due to a high calorific value (Up to 68% of coal dust), extremely high temperatures of 1,450 to 1,500°C are achieved, which in turn effectively destroy and combust all organic matter. There is no residual material for disposal because all of the inorganic residues from the MBM are incorporated into the clinker from the kiln and is ground up, with additives, to form the product.
The MBM reduces the need for fossil fuels in the kiln and is reported to give more efficient and more consistent process combustion characteristics.
